    The following Checklist will help you determine your organisation's ability to Survive a Major Incident, resulting in:

    • The loss ofTechnology &/or Businessinfrastructure
    • The inabilityto provide Goods andServices
    • The inabilityto maintain Legal &/orfinancial commitments
    • The loss ofthe entire organisationor location (office building, factory, warehouse)

    Select one or more of the following Checklists. Mark any items you consider to be inadequate at your organisation, and Fax or E-mail the completed checklist(s) to Recovery Solutions or, select one of the following items to review the checklists now.

  • Do you know what financial impact could be suffered?
  • Do you know the most critical time for your organisation?
  • Are you able to identify the key Business Functions.
  • Do you know how to prevent your competitors from obtaining some or all of your market share?
  • Can you identify all the Critical Processes?
  • Do you know the most cost effective recovery solution for all situations?
  • Have you considered all recovery alternatives?
  • Could you relocate critical staff and functions if you were unable to access your premises?
  • Do you know how long you could survive a major outage before it became disastrous?
  • Can you prioritise your computer systems, applications, services and other business functions into a preferred recovery sequence?
  • Have you a recovery strategy in place and is it a realistic and achievable one?

  • If a disaster were to occur now, would you know how to escalate all issues and who to contact?
  • How quickly could you respond to an incident, and would you know how/when to declare a disaster?
  • Could you make all the key decisions to effectively recover your area, department etc.?
  • Could you protect your personnel when emergency services or trauma counselling was required urgently?
  • Could you organise you department to effectively control the recovery process?
  • Do you know what the critical path of each recovery process would be?
  • Could you or would you replicate your computer installation in the event of total or severe loss?
  • Do you have adequate physical risk protection or warning alerts within the computer facility?
  • Would you know what hardware, software and network components you would replace and what model or releasewould you replace it with?
  • Do you know where/how to source replacement equipment in a suitable time frame?
  • Could you identify the minimum equipment needed to support the critical services?
  • Does your insurance policy cover total loss and will it allow replacement of your choice?
  • Are you confident that your backup methodology is adequate. Will this media enable you to recover to the desired point?
  • Can you identify the critical departments, services within your organisation?
  • Does each department have good procedural documentation for evacuation, emergency operations and recovery?
  • Do you know what legal/legislative commitments you must provide and in what time frame?
  • Could you identify and reconstruct all Vital Records in the event of total loss?
  • Do you know which departments supply services or information to other departments?
  • Who would co-ordinate the recovery and relocation of each department?
